While all of our openings are different, there are certain types of jobs that we typically recruit for on a regular basis. We’ve listed these jobs below, but to see what our actual current openings are, please check the Current Openings page instead.
Roommates are hired to live with an adult in our services. They provide as little or as much assistance as is needed for the person to live independently in his or her own house or apartment. Roommates provide practical assistance, such as helping with hygiene needs, assisting with medication, doing chores and running errands, preparing meals, etc. Roommates also provide companionship and assist with fun activities.
Personal Assistants do much the same work that Roommates do, but without actually living on the premises. They help with hygiene needs, assist with medication, do chores and run errands, prepare meals, etc. They also provide companionship and assist with fun activities.
Community Inclusion Specialists typically work Monday-Friday, roughly 8-5. They work one-on-one with adults in our community inclusion program, assisting them to do the activities of their choice. This might be assisting someone to attend community college, volunteer at places like Free Geek or Meals on Wheels, or visit a museum or festival. Other days might be spent helping with an art project, or watching a movie. Other activities include horseback riding, bowling, and fishing. It all depends on what the person being supported wants to do on a given day. Community Inclusion Specialists also assist with medication and personal hygiene.
Supported Living Specialists typically work Monday-Friday, roughly 8-5. They spend about 50% of their time doing fun activites activities with adults supported by UCP;s Community Inclusion program (see above). They spend the other 50% of their time working in our Supported Living program, assisting adults in their own homes with whatever they need: chores, preparing food and eating, showering and other hygiene needs, and running errands. Supported Living Specialists also provide companionship in the home.
On-Calls work one-on-one with adults in their own homes. Their shifts are usually overnights, but may also include some daytime hours. Their hours are flexible and are based on their own availability, so this type of job is great for students, people who have a home business, or people with other part time jobs. On-Calls assist with medication, chores, food preparation and eating, showering and other hygiene needs, and also provide companionship.
